PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) will open ticket sales for the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan starting February 25, 2026, at 00:00 WIB for departures from March 11 to April 1, 2026. Tickets can be purchased through the Access by KAI application and other official sales platforms.

Vice President Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba stated that the operation of this rolling stock is prepared to meet the mobility needs of the public during the Eid homecoming period.

“The Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan is being introduced to expand access to Eid travel. Capacity is increased, comfort is improved, and fares remain affordable. This is part of our strategy to maintain a balance between transport capacity and travel quality as demand increases during Eid,” said Anne.

The Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan is included in the KA Tambahan service on the Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan route, consisting of five executive-class coaches and four Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan coaches. The total capacity of the executive coaches is 250 seats, while the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan coaches provide 372 seats.

The train set operates as follows:

  • KA 7039 Tambahan Lempuyangan–Pasarsenen, departing at 06:00 WIB and arriving at 13:56 WIB
  • KA 7040 Tambahan Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan, departing at 15:25 WIB and arriving at 22:57 WIB

The rolling stock is the result of modifications to previous-generation AC package economy coaches carried out by KAI personnel at Balai Yasa Manggarai. The modifications focus on the interior and seat configuration to improve the long-distance travel experience.

Each coach has 93 seats in a 3:2 configuration, which is more ergonomic and spacious compared with the previous configuration of 106 seats. The reversible feature allows the direction of the seats to be adjusted according to the direction of travel, thereby enhancing passenger comfort.

In terms of fares, the service is positioned above PSO and below Regular Economy. This scheme provides an alternative for passengers seeking affordable fares with better facilities than subsidized economy-class services.

Anne added that optimizing existing rolling stock is part of KAI’s service innovation to increase capacity within a short period.

“Eid requires comprehensive readiness. Through innovation using existing rolling stock, capacity is increased and travel quality is improved. Passengers have more choices of schedules and classes according to their needs,” concluded Anne.

Through the operation of the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan, KAI is expanding access to rail-based public transportation, supporting smooth homecoming flows, and maintaining affordability for various passenger segments during the 2026 Eid Transport Period.
