KAI Group Prepares 61.8 Million Seats for 2026 Eid Transport, Systems and Operations Ready to Handle the Surge
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) ensures comprehensive readiness to face the 2026 Eid Transport Period. This was conveyed by KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin during a talk show program on Kompas TV with host Audrey Chandra at Menara Kompas, Monday (23/2).
This year’s Eid Transport Period is set for 22 days, from March 11 to April 1, 2026. During this period, KAI Group is preparing a passenger capacity of 61,808,188, an increase of 5.4 percent compared to the previous year’s 58,631,389 passengers. The frequency of trips will also increase to 49,866 trips, or an increase of 2.1 percent.
For Long-Distance and Local Train services managed by KAI, 4,498,696 seats are available. During the Eid Command Post period, KAI will add 62 intercity train trips per day to anticipate the homecoming and return flows.
“Eid is a national mobility moment. KAI is ensuring that capacity, rolling stock and infrastructure readiness, as well as operational systems, are solid so that people’s journeys can take place safely and smoothly,” said Bobby.
As of February 23, 2026 at 07:00 WIB, 1,659,819 KAI Long-Distance and Local Train tickets had been sold out of the total 3,872,810 seats prepared for departures from March 11 to April 1, 2026. The temporary occupancy rate stands at 42.85 percent. Seat availability remains ample, giving passengers flexibility in determining their travel dates and routes.
In support of government policies, KAI has also prepared 1,285,056 regular and additional commercial economy-class seats for the transportation stimulus program, which provides a 30 percent discount during March 14–29, 2026, with a stimulus value of IDR 116.15 billion. KAI is also providing 480 seats for the Mudik Asyik Bersama BUMN program on March 17, 2026, as well as 56,392 seats under the Free Motorcycle Transport program in cooperation with the Directorate General of Railways to encourage a shift from two-wheeled vehicles to mass transportation.
Operational readiness is strengthened through joint ramp checks with the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) and the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) across all operational areas. The inspections cover rolling stock, stations, railway tracks, and operational safety systems in accordance with Minimum Service Standards. The Integrated Eid Transport Command Post will operate from March 13 to 30, 2026, for centralized operational control. A total of 3,500 additional personnel will be deployed, including 1,044 personnel specifically assigned to level crossings, as well as service, security, and cleaning personnel.
On the digital side, KAI completed the migration and capacity enhancement of its Rail Ticketing System on January 21, 2026. The new infrastructure enables capacity adjustments dynamically and in real time. A queuing system has been implemented with an allocation of up to 25,000 transactions per minute to maintain stability during periods of high traffic. Coordination with payment partners continues to be strengthened so that any transaction issues can be resolved quickly.
During the 2026 Eid Transport Period, KAI will also introduce the Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan, developed through the modification of previous-generation economy-class coaches by Balai Yasa Manggarai, with a more comfortable 3:2 seating configuration and affordable fares. In addition, KAI is preparing the Jaka Lalana Train service, which retains a classic character with modern touches. The service is planned to operate on the Jakarta–Bogor–Sukabumi–Cianjur route and offer a travel experience featuring natural landscapes and historical value.
Safety remains the main focus, particularly at level crossings. Of more than 3,700 level crossings, nearly 2,000 are categorized as unguarded. Throughout 2025 and January 2026, KAI has closed around 200 unofficial crossings and continues to coordinate with local governments on the construction of flyovers and underpasses at high-traffic locations. These efforts aim to minimize the risk of accidents that could affect lives, disrupt operations, and impact public mobility.
Overall, the breakdown of KAI Group’s capacity during the 2026 Eid Transport Period consists of 4,498,696 passengers for KAI Long-Distance and Local Trains, 50,244,436 passengers for KAI Commuter, 637,824 passengers for KAI Bandara, 32,032 passengers for KAI Wisata, 5,698,000 passengers for LRT Jabodebek, and 697,200 passengers for LRT Sumsel.
“KAI Group is moving forward with careful planning, strengthened systems, and the readiness of our people across all lines to ensure that the 2026 Eid Transport Period runs in an orderly, safe, and controlled manner,” concluded Bobby.
