After Nearly 8 Hours of Recovery, the Rawabuaya–Batuceper Section Gradually Resumes Operations
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) announced that the operational recovery process on the Rawabuaya–Batuceper line had been ongoing for nearly 8 hours following the incident in which KA 806A Commuter Line Bandara was struck by a trailer truck at a level crossing on Friday (20/2). The line can now be traversed gradually at a restricted speed after being declared safe.
Vice President Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba confirmed that all customers were safe.
“Safety is our top priority. All customers were successfully evacuated safely, and there were no casualties in this incident,” said Anne.
The incident had a significant impact on train operations. A total of 33 Commuter Line Bandara trips and 16 Commuter Line Tangerang trips were cancelled. In addition, 18 other trips underwent operational pattern adjustments and experienced delays.
Under normal conditions, the Commuter Line Bandara (Basoetta) service serves approximately 6,430 users per day, while the Commuter Line on the Tangerang Line serves approximately 74,237 users per day. With these average volumes, the disruption on this line directly affected the mobility of more than 80,000 daily customers using services on the Rawabuaya–Batuceper line.
Under normal conditions, the line is traversed by approximately 90–100 Commuter Line Tangerang trips and 60–64 Commuter Line Bandara trips each day. Therefore, the recovery of the line became the top priority to restore smooth public mobility.
The recovery process involved hundreds of personnel from various teams, including Track, Overhead Line Equipment (OLE), operations, and security teams. The handling process was carried out comprehensively, covering the evacuation of the truck, removal of the derailed trainset, inspection and repair of the rail and sleeper structures, remeasurement of track geometry, and restoration of the OLE network to ensure that the infrastructure was safe before the line was reopened.
“We apologize to all customers for the inconvenience caused. All recovery measures have been carried out to the fullest extent to ensure that services can resume safely and reliably,” added Anne.
KAI emphasized that violations at level crossings have serious consequences for the safety of train operations and public services. In response to this incident, KAI is coordinating with law enforcement authorities and will pursue legal proceedings in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
“Discipline and compliance with regulations at level crossings are not merely obligations, but a shared responsibility in maintaining safety. We will take firm action through legal channels,” stressed Anne.
KAI ensures that a comprehensive evaluation will continue to be carried out to strengthen safety and service reliability across the entire operational network.
