The 2026 Chinese New Year long weekend was celebrated with lively travel activity. During the period from February 13 to 17, 2026, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) served 1,024,881 customers from a total of 825,075 seats provided. Cumulatively, the occupancy rate reached 124.2 percent across various long-distance and medium-distance routes.

The average daily occupancy rate during the five-day long weekend exceeded 100 percent. This was influenced by dynamic travel patterns, in which customers boarded and alighted at intermediate stations before reaching the final destination, allowing a single seat to be utilized by more than one customer during a single train journey.

During the long weekend, KAI also brought a distinctive Chinese New Year atmosphere to several stations through festive decorations, including lanterns and red-themed ornaments, as well as lion dance performances at several service points. These cultural elements added to the festive atmosphere and provided customers with a warmer travel experience.

The following is a breakdown of the number of customers by departure date during the 2026 Chinese New Year long weekend:

  • February 13: 202,105 customers from a capacity of 164,196
  • February 14: 216,863 customers from a capacity of 163,974
  • February 15: 203,821 customers from a capacity of 165,392
  • February 16: 190,373 customers from a capacity of 166,104
  • February 17: 211,719 customers from a capacity of 165,409

The high level of public mobility was also reflected in the ten most popular routes during the period. The Yogyakarta–Gambir route recorded 12,883 customers, followed by Gambir–Yogyakarta with 11,345 customers. The Gambir–Semarang Tawang route served 9,832 customers, while Semarang Tawang–Gambir served 9,196 customers. Meanwhile, Gambir–Bandung served 8,067 customers and Bandung–Gambir served 8,004 customers. For routes across Central and East Java, Yogyakarta–Surabaya Gubeng recorded 7,710 customers, Lempuyangan–Pasarsenen served 7,404 customers, Surabaya Gubeng–Yogyakarta served 6,921 customers, and Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan served 6,472 customers.
