PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) conducted a Special Train (KLB) Inspection of the Southern Railway Line on February 10–12, 2026, as part of efforts to ensure operational readiness for the 2026 Eid Transportation period. The activity included direct inspections of infrastructure, facilities, operating systems, safety, and human resource readiness along the southern railway line of Java.

KAI Operations Director Awan Hermawan Purwadinata stated that the Inspection KLB is an important instrument to ensure that operational readiness is carried out comprehensively and in a coordinated manner.

“Through the Southern Railway Line Inspection KLB, KAI ensures that all service and safety elements are in a ready condition before entering the Eid Transportation period. This step is part of our commitment to maintaining travel reliability and customer comfort amid increased mobility,” said Awan.

The Southern Railway Line Inspection KLB consisted of 1 locomotive, 1 Nusantara coach, 1 Jawa coach, 1 dining car, and 1 power car, with the first-day route running from Bandung to Purwokerto. Overall, the inspection route covered the working areas of Operational Area 2 Bandung, Operational Area 5 Purwokerto, Operational Area 6 Yogyakarta, Operational Area 7 Madiun, and Operational Area 8 Surabaya, which are strategic railway lines with diverse geographical characteristics and operational challenges.

The activity was attended by KAI Operations Director Awan Hermawan Purwadinata, KAI Director of Business and Business Development Rafli Yandra, representatives of the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), and representatives of the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation.

On the first day, the activity focused on briefing employees at Bandung Station and Purwokerto Station. Throughout the journey, the management team and stakeholders directly inspected track conditions, station yards, and the readiness of operational personnel in the field. The activity was also used to align service standards and the preparedness of operational staff and frontliners so that all personnel would have the same level of readiness during the Eid Transportation period.

As part of the Inspection KLB series, each Operational Area presented its readiness for the 2026 Eid Transportation period, covering operational plans, measures to anticipate potential travel disruptions, and emergency response schemes. Considering that the southern railway line passes through mountainous areas, weather-prone sections, and segments with significantly increased travel frequencies during Eid, comprehensive inspections were conducted to maintain infrastructure reliability and smooth journeys.

As part of the readiness of the southern railway line, KAI has also prepared integrated security measures in Operational Areas 2, 5, 6, 7, and 8, supported by thousands of internal and external security personnel. Security measures are strengthened through coordination with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and relevant authorities to maintain the safety of train journeys and station environments during the Eid Transportation period.

In addition, the readiness of facilities and infrastructure for handling operational disruptions has been strengthened through the deployment of reserve locomotives, power generators, cranes, as well as the availability of Standby Material Equipment (AMUS) at strategic points along the southern railway line. These measures are designed to ensure a rapid and measured response in the event of operational disruptions during the transportation period.

The 2026 Eid Transportation period will take place for 22 days, from March 11 to April 1, 2026, with the Eid Transportation Command Post operating from March 14–29, 2026. The peak of the homecoming flow is expected to occur on March 18, 2026, coinciding with the Nyepi collective leave day, while the peak of the return flow is projected to occur on March 24, 2026, when the Eid al-Fitr collective leave period ends. This pattern serves as a reference for KAI in managing operations, preparing facilities and human resources, and securing train journeys.

Through the Southern Railway Line Inspection KLB, KAI reaffirms its commitment to ensuring reliable, safe, and comfortable railway services, allowing the public to travel during the Eid period safely and smoothly.
