The Government is strengthening the national economic stimulus in the first quarter of 2026 through policies to manage community mobility ahead of Eid al-Fitr. Public transportation is positioned as a strategic instrument to ensure smooth movement of people, support economic activities, and expand the equitable distribution of development benefits during the Eid homecoming and return travel period.

At the First Quarter 2026 Economic Stimulus and Eid al-Fitr 2026 Transportation Readiness Press Conference at Gambir Station, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (10/2), Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto stated that the Government is optimizing community travel through transportation fare discount policies during National Religious Holiday periods, including Eid al-Fitr. The policy is aimed at increasing community mobility, promoting tourism, and maintaining national economic growth.

Based on the Government’s evaluation, community mobility during Eid al-Fitr 2025 reached 154.62 million people, while the Christmas and New Year holiday period recorded 110.43 million people, with annual growth of approximately 5.11 percent. Based on this, in 2026 the Government is once again providing an economic stimulus in the form of transportation discounts with a total budget of Rp911.16 billion sourced from the State Budget and non-State Budget funds.

For railway transportation, the Government has set a 30 percent fare discount for journeys during the period of March 14–29, 2026, as part of a strategy to maintain people’s purchasing power and manage national mobility during the Eid period.

Following up on this policy, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is carrying out the assignment by providing Eid al-Fitr 2026 Transportation services, focusing on capacity readiness, smooth journeys, and the implementation of government policies.

Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba stated that KAI ensures the Government’s stimulus discount policy can be accessed by the public in an orderly manner through official sales channels.

“In supporting the Government’s 30 percent stimulus discount policy, KAI is preparing more than 1.2 million seats during the Eid Transportation period, which can be utilized by the public through official sales channels starting this afternoon,” said Anne.

Along with this policy, KAI is also preparing 660,000 additional train seats during the Eid Transportation period to expand travel options and help manage the homecoming and return travel flows.

“Tickets for additional trains can start to be booked through official sales platforms such as the Access by KAI application, starting February 11, 2026, at 00:01 WIB,” added Anne.

As of February 10, 2026, at 07:00 WIB, a total of 848,188 regular train tickets had been sold for departures from March 11–27, 2026, providing the public with an opportunity to plan their journeys earlier.

Based on preliminary data, the highest booking volume was recorded for March 24, 2026, with 69,724 tickets, followed by March 23 with 68,904 tickets, March 19 with 66,201 tickets, and March 18 with 64,127 tickets. Outside these dates, ticket availability remains open.

The most popular routes are currently dominated by major Java corridors such as Gambir–Yogyakarta, Gambir–Semarang Tawang, and Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan, reflecting the role of railways as the backbone of intercity mobility during the Eid homecoming period.

“KAI supports the Government’s policy in managing the 2026 Eid al-Fitr Transportation period. We encourage the public to plan their journeys early so that the homecoming trip can take place in an orderly, safe, and comfortable manner,” concluded Anne.
