PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that 890,165 Long-Distance Train customers utilized the face recognition service throughout January 2026. This utilization demonstrates the growing demand among customers for practical, fast, and comfortable travel services, in line with increasing public mobility.

The face recognition service is currently available at 22 stations, namely Bandung, Bekasi, Cirebon, Cirebon Prujakan, Gambir, Kiaracondong, Kutoarjo, Lempuyangan, Medan, Malang, Madiun, Pekalongan, Pasarsenen, Purwokerto, Surabaya Pasar Turi, Surabaya Gubeng, Solo Balapan, Semarang Poncol, Semarang Tawang, Tegal, and Yogyakarta. Through this facility, customers can complete the boarding process without having to manually present printed tickets or identification documents.

From the customer's perspective, face recognition provides a simpler and more efficient boarding experience. The identity verification process takes less time, queues can be reduced, and waiting times in the boarding area become shorter, making the journey more orderly and comfortable.

The utilization of this service also has an impact on resource management efficiency. Boarding without printed tickets reduces the need for paper usage. Assuming that one roll of paper measuring 7,200 cm in length can print approximately 400 tickets, with a price of Rp14,765 per roll, the printing cost is equivalent to approximately Rp37 per ticket.

Based on these calculations, the use of face recognition by 890,165 customers throughout January 2026 has the potential to save ticket printing costs of up to approximately Rp32.9 million in terms of paper and supporting materials. This efficiency is in line with KAI's efforts to manage operations more effectively and responsibly.

Reducing paper usage also contributes to lowering the need for raw materials and logistics distribution, thereby supporting more sustainable environmental management efforts. The digitalization of boarding services is part of KAI's strategy to provide modern and environmentally friendly public transportation services.

Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba stated that the development of face recognition stems from customers' need for increasingly practical and comfortable services.

“For customers, face recognition provides convenience because the boarding process becomes faster and simpler. From KAI's perspective, this service helps us maintain smooth operations while supporting more sustainable resource management,” said Anne.

Anne added that ahead of the Eid homecoming period, the utilization of face recognition will further help customers optimize their travel time.

“We encourage customers to utilize this facility so that the boarding process can run more smoothly and the journey can be enjoyed more comfortably,” concluded Anne.

Going forward, KAI will continue to develop digital services focused on improving customer experience, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability, in line with the company's commitment.
