PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that KA Logawa served 630,504 customers throughout 2025, reflecting the high public interest in Premium Economy-class long-distance train services as a reliable mode of transportation connecting regions across Java Island.

KA Logawa serves the Purwokerto–Ketapang (Banyuwangi) round-trip route via the central and eastern routes of Java, making it one of the strategic intercity connectors in Central Java and East Java, both for daily mobility needs, economic activities, and tourism travel.

Since February 2025, the KA Logawa route has been extended to Banyuwangi after previously terminating in Jember. This route expansion is in line with the government’s policy direction to strengthen interregional connectivity, promote equitable regional development, and develop national tourism destinations, particularly in eastern Java.

Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba stated that the performance of KA Logawa demonstrates the tangible role of rail-based transportation in supporting the national development agenda.

“The number of KA Logawa customers throughout 2025 shows that trains remain a primary choice for people to reach productive centers and tourist destinations. This service connects economic areas, educational centers, and leading tourism destinations within an integrated travel corridor,” said Anne.

On a single journey, KA Logawa serves 19 stations, namely Purwokerto, Kroya, Gombong, Kebumen, Kutoarjo, Lempuyangan, Purwosari, Madiun, Kertosono, Mojokerto, Surabaya Gubeng, Sidoarjo, Probolinggo, Tanggul, Rambipuji, Jember, Kalibaru, Banyuwangi Kota, and Ketapang.

From a tourism perspective, the KA Logawa route passes through areas with diverse economic and cultural characteristics, ranging from agricultural and coastal areas of Central Java, the cultural centers of Yogyakarta and Solo, economic supporting cities such as Madiun and Mojokerto, the Surabaya metropolitan area, to leading destinations in eastern East Java such as Jember and Banyuwangi, which are known for their natural attractions, beaches, and the Mount Ijen area.

This scheduled and affordable rail-based public transportation access supports the movement of domestic tourists while strengthening the sustainable tourism ecosystem as directed by government programs related to developing the tourism sector as a driver of regional economic growth.

Based on Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data for 2024–2025, Central Java and East Java are among the provinces with high levels of inter-regency and intercity population mobility, in line with the growth of the trade, transportation, and tourism sectors. This condition further emphasizes the role of railways as the backbone of community mobility and the distribution of regional economic activities.

Anne added that comfort and service quality are also key focuses for KAI.

“KA Logawa uses Premium Economy-class stainless steel trainsets with a capacity of approximately 80 seats per car, ensuring that long-distance journeys remain comfortable, safe, and in accordance with the needs of modern society,” she said.

Through services such as KA Logawa, KAI continues its commitment to supporting the government’s Asta Cita, particularly in strengthening national connectivity, promoting equitable regional development, and encouraging economic and tourism growth through sustainable public transportation.
