Transportation Minister and Banten Governor Inaugurate Jatake Station, Emphasizing the Strengthening of an Area-Based Mass Transportation Ecosystem
Indonesian Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi and Banten Governor Andra Soni inaugurated Jatake Railway Station as a new urban railway hub in Tangerang Regency on Wednesday (28/1). The inauguration reaffirmed the direction of national transportation development policy, which focuses on strengthening the mass transportation ecosystem through cross-sector collaboration, regional integration, and sustainable community mobility.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Director General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation Allan Tandiono, officials from the Banten Provincial Government and Tangerang Regency Government, KAI Group management, as well as stakeholders including the management of PT Bumi Serpong Damai Tbk (Sinar Mas Land).
In his remarks, the Minister of Transportation stated that public transportation development is directed toward establishing a connected, efficient, and well-organized mobility ecosystem. This approach encourages synergy among the central government, KAI Group, local governments, and private business entities so that mass transportation develops in line with the growth of residential areas and economic activity centers.
In line with this policy, Jatake Station was developed through a collaborative scheme without using the state budget (APBN). This model reflects the government’s encouragement of accountable, adaptive, and sustainable transportation infrastructure development.
Banten Governor Andra Soni stated that the presence of Jatake Station strengthens regional connectivity while increasing the competitiveness of the BSD area as a Transit Oriented Development (TOD)-based agglomeration.
According to him, the experience of Banten Province shows that the development of railway networks has a direct impact on more equitable economic growth. Therefore, the Banten Provincial Government hopes for support from the central government and KAI to promote equitable railway development to southern Banten, including the reactivation of the Rangkasbitung–Pandeglang–Labuan line, in order to open up new economic growth centers and expand access to tourism areas.
“Railways have a significant influence on regional growth. Every active railway hub has the potential to become a center of community economic activity,” said Andra Soni.
In line with this, KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that the development and operation of Jatake Station are part of KAI’s commitment to supporting government policies through the Ministry of Transportation related to strengthening a mass transportation ecosystem based on collaboration and regional integration.
“Jatake Station was built through a creative financing scheme in collaboration with PT Bumi Serpong Damai Tbk using a Transit Oriented Development approach. This initiative is in line with the government’s policy of developing a transportation ecosystem integrated with regional growth,” said Bobby.
He explained that Jatake Station has a building area of 3,198 square meters with a service capacity of up to 20,000 passengers per day, supported by Commuter Line services with a headway of 5–10 minutes. Parking facilities, intermodal integration, and space for further development have been prepared to support the sustainable mobility of the surrounding community.
Bobby added that the high mobility of the productive-age population in Tangerang Regency is reflected in the increasing number of users of the Tanah Abang–Rangkasbitung Commuter Line, which reached 77.55 million passengers throughout 2025. This trend demonstrates the strategic role of urban railways in supporting the daily economic activities of communities in areas surrounding Jakarta.
Furthermore, KAI views the operation of Jatake Station as part of strengthening the national railway system in line with government policies to encourage a shift toward mass transportation. This step is expected to strengthen an urban transportation ecosystem that is more efficient, well-organized, and competitive.
The Ministry of Transportation also welcomed the operation of Jatake Station and encouraged the replication of cross-sector collaboration models in the development of the national railway system as a foundation for strengthening public transportation oriented toward the interests of the community.
