KA Kahuripan Supports Community Mobility and Economic Activity Along Java’s Southern Route
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) continues to provide public transportation services that directly benefit the community through the operation of Kahuripan Train, a subsidized economy-class train (Public Service Obligation/PSO) operating on the Kiaracondong–Blitar (round trip) route, serving the southern route of Java Island.
Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that Kahuripan Train plays a strategic role in supporting interregional mobility and facilitating the social and economic activities of communities, particularly in the southern region of Java.
“Kahuripan Train helps people reach various activity centers at affordable costs. This service is used for work, education, family visits, and tourism, thereby supporting the smooth running of people’s daily activities,” said Anne.
Based on publications by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) in 2024–2025, the southern part of West Java, the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Central Java, and East Java have shown consistent dynamics in population mobility. These movements are driven by regional economic activities, the distribution of educational centers, and the development of the domestic tourism sector. In this context, the availability of PSO railway services is an important factor in maintaining efficient and affordable regional connectivity.
Anne explained that Java’s southern route has its own role in the structure of the regional economy. Many areas along this route rely on local trade, agriculture, MSMEs, and nature- and culture-based tourism. Affordable transportation access supports the smooth movement of people to economic activity centers and tourist destinations around the stations along the route.
“Rail transportation provides certainty in travel times, large passenger capacity, and more affordable costs. This helps people plan their journeys better and encourages local economic activity around station areas,” explained Anne.
In addition to its economic aspects, Kahuripan Train also has strong social value. This service connects major cities with medium-sized and smaller areas along Java’s southern route, thereby expanding access to public transportation for various segments of society. This connectivity supports equal access to interregional travel and maintains the continuity of social interaction.
As part of the PSO service, KAI ensures that Kahuripan Train operations comply with safety and service standards. Travel operations are managed in a measured manner to ensure that community mobility continues safely and orderly.
“Through the operation of Kahuripan Train, KAI is committed to supporting the community’s travel needs while strengthening social and economic activity along Java’s southern route,” concluded Anne.
