PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) ensured that all train services returned to normal following the earthquake that struck Pacitan, East Java, on Tuesday (27/1) morning. KAI immediately conducted comprehensive inspections of rolling stock and infrastructure to ensure safe train operations and the safety of all passengers.

According to information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), the earthquake occurred at 08:20 WIB with a magnitude of 5.5. The earthquake was centered on land at a depth of 105 kilometers, at coordinates 8.14° South Latitude and 111.33° East Longitude, approximately 23–25 kilometers northeast of Pacitan, East Java.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of KAI Anne Purba emphasized that safety remains the top priority under all circumstances, including during natural disasters.

“As soon as the earthquake was felt, KAI immediately implemented the Extraordinary Stop (Berhenti Luar Biasa/BLB) procedure for train services and coordinated across units. All these measures were taken to ensure that the infrastructure was completely safe before train services resumed,” said Anne.

The earthquake was felt in the Yogyakarta Operational Area (Daop) 6 at 08:20 WIB. As a safety precaution, all train services in the area were subject to BLB while infrastructure personnel conducted inspections of the tracks and bridges.

Based on a report from Daop 6 Yogyakarta, coordination with the Track and Bridge (JJ) Unit and comprehensive inspections of the affected routes began at 08:21 WIB. After confirming that there were no deviations or damage caused by the earthquake, all train services in the Daop 6 area were permitted to resume normal operations at 08:48 WIB.

The earthquake tremors were also felt along the Daop 7 Madiun routes and in the Daop 8 Surabaya area, including the Malang route. In these areas, KAI also implemented situational operational safety measures through infrastructure inspections and the application of BLB.

Based on an update from Daop 8 Surabaya, at 09:01 WIB all routes that had been subject to safety measures were declared safe, and train services resumed normal operations.

Anne added that there were no train cancellations as a result of the incident. Any delays that occurred were temporary and adjusted to the requirements of the safety inspections.

“We ensure that all passengers are safe and secure. KAI will continue to prioritize safety while maintaining smooth public mobility,” concluded Anne.
