Integrated Manggarai Station Strengthens Urban Mobility and Supports a More Convenient Urban Lifestyle

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) continues to strengthen the integration of Manggarai Station as a major urban transportation hub in the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek). This strengthening is in line with the increasingly dense mobility patterns of urban communities and the growing need for efficient, connected access to various centers of daily activity.

Vice President Corporate Communication of KAI Anne Purba said that Manggarai plays an important role in supporting the daily activities of urban communities. As a meeting point for various service lines, the integration of Manggarai ensures that movement between areas remains organized and interconnected amid increasingly intensive activities.

“The integration of Manggarai Station is designed to support people's mobility by prioritizing ease of access and time efficiency. With connections between different lines, daily activities can be carried out more efficiently,” said Anne.

This situation is in line with the 2024 Population and Labor Mobility Statistics released by Statistics Indonesia (BPS), the latest national publication on mobility. BPS noted that urban areas are dominated by the working-age population, with high levels of daily travel across regions, particularly for work and access to public services. This pattern highlights the need for integrated and high-capacity public transportation in metropolitan areas.

BPS also shows that urban population concentrations tend to develop in areas with good access to public transportation. With limited land availability, accessibility is an important factor in shaping residential preferences, as it enables people to reach workplaces, services, and daily activities more efficiently. Optimizing land use around transportation hubs has become part of an urban lifestyle that seeks convenience without requiring people to travel long distances.

In line with these dynamics, KAI's internal data shows that Manggarai Station is one of the commuter movement hubs with consistently high passenger volumes. During the 2023–2025 period, the number of KRL passengers passing through the Manggarai hub reached 5,142,739 passengers in 2023, increased to 5,575,711 passengers in 2024, and stood at 5,456,309 passengers in 2025. This consistency reflects Manggarai's role as a meeting point for journeys from residential areas to economic activity centers in Jakarta and its surrounding areas.

This role is further strengthened by Manggarai's connection to services to Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Airport Commuter Line passenger numbers grew from 1,970,531 in 2023 to 2,242,536 in 2024, and increased again to 2,346,934 in 2025. This trend indicates growing public demand for connectivity between major transportation hubs that are directly linked to economic and service activity centers.

In an urban landscape that continues to develop amid increasingly limited space, transportation integration and proximity between residential areas and mobility hubs are important factors in maintaining travel efficiency and the accessibility of daily activities. Manggarai Station serves as a connectivity center that enables people to carry out their activities with more streamlined and interconnected access through KRL and Airport Commuter Line services.

KAI continues to strengthen integration between services, improve operational reliability, and ensure that connectivity at major hubs operates optimally. These efforts are aimed at ensuring that public transportation remains aligned with the needs of urban communities that prioritize practical, efficient mobility and proximity to various activity centers.

“Integrated public transportation is an important part of supporting the daily lives of urban communities that value simplicity and connectivity,” concluded Anne.
