KAI and Railfans Gather at Balaiyasa Manggarai for the 2026 Railfans Community Gathering
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) held the 2026 Railfans Community Gathering at Balaiyasa Manggarai as a forum for friendship and collaboration with the railfans community. The event marked the opening of 2026 while also serving as a space to reflect on the performance of KAI Group’s services throughout 2025.
President Director of KAI Bobby Rasyidin stated that throughout 2025, KAI Group recorded positive performance by serving 503,549,740 customers, an increase of 8.52 percent compared to 2024, which reached 464,031,108 customers. This achievement reflects growing public trust in rail-based transportation as a reliable, safe, and affordable mode of transportation. The figure represents the total number of customers served by KAI’s Long-Distance and Local Train services, KAI Commuter, KAI Bandara, KAI Wisata, LRT Sumsel, LRT Jabodebek, KCIC, and the Makassar-Parepare Train.
Throughout 2025, KAI also recorded a passenger train departure punctuality rate of 99.53 percent and an arrival punctuality rate of 95.93 percent, maintaining operational reliability and public trust.
On the occasion, Bobby Rasyidin expressed his appreciation to the railfans community for their continued support.
“Thank you to all railfans who have continuously helped maintain order, assisted in disseminating information, and reminded people of the importance of travel safety. This support is very meaningful for the smooth operation of services and customer comfort,” said Bobby Rasyidin.
Vice President Corporate Communication of KAI Anne Purba added that KAI currently fosters 56 railfans communities with 6,455 registered members. Throughout 2025, KAI carried out 1,509 activities with the communities, particularly those related to travel safety and the prevention of sexual harassment in the railway environment.
At the 2026 Railfans Community Gathering, KAI also officially introduced two shunting locomotives with vintage liveries, namely BB3068414 (formerly BB30619) with a red-blue livery from the 1991–2008 era and D30121 with a white livery featuring two blue stripes from the 1995–2010 era. This beautification program is part of preserving railway history while strengthening the visual identity of Indonesian railways.
The role of Balaiyasa Manggarai is also reflected in its contribution to improving rolling stock quality. During the 2023–2025 period, Balaiyasa Manggarai completed work on 4 compartment cars, 2 modified executive cars, and 124 modified economy cars, while also obtaining ISO 37001:2018, ISO 9001:2018, and ISO 45001:2018 certifications.
Chairman of the Indonesian Railway Preservation Society (IRPS) Ricki Dwi Agusti expressed his appreciation for the event.
“This is the first activity with railfans in 2026 and serves as a space for friendship, including with railfans who came from Medan to Banyuwangi,” said Ricki.
The 2026 Railfans Community Gathering was attended by 250 participants from various railfans communities in Java and Sumatra, serving as a space for togetherness and collaboration that continues to strengthen the relationship between KAI and the railway enthusiast community.
