PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded an increase in freight transportation performance throughout 2025. The total freight volume reached 69,791,691 tons, up from 69,201,670 tons in 2024. This achievement highlights the role of railways as a strategic logistics mode in maintaining the smooth distribution of goods across Indonesia.

The increase in freight volume was supported by the transportation of various commodities, including retail goods, containers, coal, clinker, fuel, fertilizer, plantation products, and other commodities. This diverse range of cargo reflects KAI's freight transportation capabilities in supporting the needs of the energy, industrial, and interregional trade sectors.

Of the total freight volume transported in 2025, coal was the largest commodity, with a total volume of 57,522,994 tons, accounting for approximately 82.4 percent of KAI's total freight transportation. This contribution plays an important role in maintaining energy supplies for power plants and supporting the reliability of electricity systems across various regions.

Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI, Anne Purba, said that the increase in freight transportation reflects customers' confidence in reliable and scheduled rail-based transportation. The service is considered capable of consistently meeting the needs of transporting large volumes of commodities.

Furthermore, Anne explained that the smooth distribution of goods by rail provides broad benefits to the economy.

“Stable logistics movement supports industrial activities, maintains the availability of energy and raw materials, and helps improve distribution cost efficiency by reducing the burden on road traffic,” added Anne.

KAI continues to strengthen its freight transportation services by optimizing rolling stock, infrastructure, and integrated operational management.

“These efforts are aimed at ensuring that rail freight transportation continues to serve as the backbone of national logistics and supports sustainable economic growth,” concluded Anne.
