75 Percent of Nataru Tickets Purchased Through Access by KAI, KAI’s Digitalization Increasingly Becomes Customers’ Preferred Choice

The increasingly digital lifestyle of the public was clearly reflected during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year transportation period (Nataru). Throughout the period from December 18, 2025 to January 4, 2026, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) served 4,179,095 passengers, an increase of 12.02 percent compared to the 2024/2025 Nataru period, which recorded 3,730,584 passengers.

Of this total, 3,432,968 passengers, or 75.12 percent, purchased their tickets through Access by KAI. This achievement confirms the role of Access by KAI as the main channel of choice for the public in planning their journeys, while also reflecting growing customer trust in KAI’s practical, fast, and integrated digital services.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that Access by KAI was designed as a central platform for managing customers’ journeys, rather than merely as a ticket purchasing application.

“We developed Access by KAI to make it easier for customers to manage their journeys independently, from purchasing and rescheduling to ticket cancellation without having to visit a station, as long as the ticket is registered under the customer’s name or one of the passengers listed under the booking code,” said Anne.

Moreover, Access by KAI also provides an integrated digital service ecosystem. Through a single application, customers can access various supporting services, such as hotel bookings, E-Porter, electricity payments, as well as intermodal connectivity services including KA Bandara, Whoosh, and LRT Jabodebek.

“This is not only about convenience, but also about how we provide a complete travel experience in the palm of customers’ hands,” added Anne.

As part of KAI’s commitment to sustainability and service efficiency, Access by KAI is also equipped with a Carbon Footprint feature and face recognition boarding registration, which is currently available at 22 stations. This feature enables the boarding process to be faster, more efficient, and more convenient, particularly during periods of high travel volume such as Nataru.

In terms of operational services, long-distance railway services served 3,392,439 passengers, or 122.9 percent of the capacity of 2,761,048 seats. Meanwhile, local railway services served 786,656 passengers, or 105.6 percent of the capacity of 745,056 seats. The occupancy levels exceeding capacity were influenced by dynamic passenger travel patterns, particularly on local railway services, which allow passengers to board and alight at several stations during a single journey.

“We see digitalization as not only accelerating transactions, but also helping customers plan their journeys in a more organized and measured manner. This is why we continue to strengthen the digital ecosystem as part of KAI’s service transformation,” explained Anne.

KAI expresses its appreciation and gratitude for the public’s continued trust in choosing railways as a preferred mode of transportation during the Nataru period.

“Going forward, KAI will continue to strengthen digital services, expand intermodal integration, and improve the quality of the customer experience. We are carrying out this transformation continuously so that railways remain increasingly relevant, comfortable, and become an integral part of people’s mobility lifestyle,” concluded Anne.
