Interregional Mobility Strengthens, KAI Christmas and New Year Ticket Sales Grow by 10.86 Percent
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded ticket sales for the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) transportation period from 18 December 2025 to 4 January 2026 reaching 4,135,783 tickets as of Sunday, 4 January 2026 at 08.00 WIB. This achievement grew by 10.86 percent compared with the 2024/2025 Nataru period, which recorded 3,730,584 tickets. This figure may continue to increase as ticket sales remain open until Sunday, 4 January 2026 at 24.00 WIB.
Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba stated that ticket sales growth was driven by strong interregional mobility with flexible travel patterns. Data shows high levels of customer activity both boarding and alighting at various stations along the same routes, resulting in increased utilization of railway services.
“During the Nataru period, trains play an important role as a connector of interregional mobility. Customer journeys are distributed across various stations, both for long-distance and local railway services,” said Anne.
Long-distance train ticket sales reached 3,363,058 tickets, equivalent to 121.8 percent of the available capacity of 2,761,048 seats. Local train ticket sales reached 772,725 tickets, or 103.7 percent of the available capacity of 745,056 seats. Overall, KAI provided 3,506,104 seats during the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year transportation period, with an aggregate occupancy rate reaching 118.0 percent.
Daily data shows consistent customer volumes throughout the Nataru period, with the highest movement recorded on 28 December 2025, reaching 269,719 customers. Daily volumes remained above 200,000 customers per day until early January 2026. This pattern reflects sustained demand for railway travel.
Anne added that the distribution of favorite departure and destination stations indicates a more balanced flow of travel across various regions while strengthening the role of stations as regional mobility hubs.
“This condition serves as an important basis for KAI’s operational evaluation, including capacity management, schedule arrangements, and strengthening services according to customer needs in each travel corridor,” explained Anne.
During the same period, the 30 percent fare discount program for commercial economy-class trains, which was available from 22 December 2025 to 10 January 2026, recorded sales of 1,490,523 tickets out of 1,509,080 available seats, equivalent to 99 percent. This program expanded public access to railway services during the year-end holiday period.
Anne expressed appreciation to the public for the trust given to KAI during the 2025/2026 Christmas and New Year transportation period.
“KAI would like to thank all communities and customers. Every input and criticism provided becomes part of our evaluation process to maintain service consistency and improve travel quality in the future,” concluded Anne.
