Intermodal Integration at Yogyakarta Station Strengthens the Role of KRL During the 2025 Christmas and New Year Holiday Period
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) through KAI Commuter recorded positive performance for the Yogyakarta Commuter Line service during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) holiday transport period. From December 18 to December 31, 2025, the Yogyakarta Commuter Line served 439,971 passengers, reaching 107 percent compared to the 2024 Nataru period, with a daily average of 31,427 passengers.
During the same period, the Yogyakarta – Kutoarjo Prameks Commuter Line also recorded solid performance by serving 56,663 passengers, reaching 107 percent compared to the 2024 Nataru period, with a daily average of 4,047 passengers. This achievement highlights the vital role of the commuter line as the backbone of community mobility in Yogyakarta and its surrounding areas during the high-intensity year-end holiday season.
Vice President of Corporate Communication at KAI, Anne Purba, stated that the high passenger volume during Nataru was served effectively thanks to the operational reliability of the Yogyakarta Commuter Line.
"Throughout the Nataru period, the Yogyakarta Commuter Line maintained a consistent On-Time Performance (OTP) of over 99 percent. This reliability provides travel certainty for the public attending holiday activities, family visits, or daily commutes," Anne said.
The reliability of the Yogyakarta Commuter Line service during Nataru was supported by the operation of 41 trips per day, consisting of 31 Yogyakarta – Palur Commuter Line trips and 10 Yogyakarta – Kutoarjo Prameks Commuter Line trips. This service reaches 17 stations across the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Central Java, with a fare of Rp8,000 for the Yogyakarta – Palur Commuter Line and Rp8,000 for the Prameks Commuter Line, keeping it affordable amidst increased public mobility needs.
From a strategic standpoint, Yogyakarta Station acts as an intermodal integration hub connecting commuter line services with long-distance trains, airport trains, and local urban transport modes. This integration makes movement easier for passengers traveling to and from the city center, educational hubs, and tourist destinations, while also improving travel efficiency during peak mobility periods like Nataru.
Anne added that the positive performance during Nataru reflects the contributions of the Yogyakarta and Prameks Commuter Line services throughout 2025 in Regional Division 6. Based on operational data from KAI Commuter Region 6, the Yogyakarta Commuter Line served over 9 million passengers, while the Prameks Commuter Line served over 1.1 million passengers in 2025.
"Intermodal integration and consistent service throughout the year serve as an essential foundation in strengthening regional connectivity. The commuter line not only connects trips, but also supports regional economic activity and tourism growth," Anne added.
As part of its commitment to delivering reliable and sustainable public transportation services, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) through KAI Commuter invites the public to continue using the commuter line as their primary choice for daily mobility.
