PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded that the return flow of passengers following the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year holidays (Nataru) began on Saturday, January 3, 2026. As of 08:00 WIB, total national railway ticket sales for the period from December 18, 2025 to January 4, 2026 had reached 4,068,603 tickets, an increase of 9.06 percent compared to the 2024/2025 Nataru period, which recorded 3,730,584 tickets.

The occupancy rate exceeding 100 percent was influenced by dynamic passenger travel patterns, with passengers boarding and alighting at various stations between the departure and final destination stations.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said that today’s Nataru return flow reflects the high mobility of people returning to their home cities after the year-end holiday period.
“As the Nataru return flow begins, KAI is ensuring that all services operate safely and smoothly. As of this morning, national ticket sales have surpassed 4 million passengers, reflecting the high level of public trust in railways as a primary mode of transportation during the long holiday period,” said Anne.
On a daily basis, the number of long-distance and local railway passengers on Saturday, January 3, 2026, reached 202,701 passengers (dynamic data as of 24:00 WIB). This figure indicates significant movement during the return flow following the peak of holiday departures at the end of December 2025.
