PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded a total of 609,657 elderly passengers benefiting from reduced fares on long-distance train services during January–June 2026.

This figure increased by 31.09% compared to the same period in 2025, which recorded 465,078 passengers. Throughout 2025, a total of 1,062,368 elderly passengers utilised the long-distance train fare reduction facility.

As weekends approach, train travel becomes part of many families’ activities. For elderly passengers, such journeys may represent opportunities to visit children and grandchildren, attend family events, undergo medical check-ups, return to their hometowns, or simply spend time with loved ones.

Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI, Anne Purba, stated that elderly passengers are an important part of society who deserve attention and respect in every journey.

“Becoming elderly is a stage of life that everyone may experience if given a long life. Therefore, they must be cared for, respected, and supported so they can continue to travel comfortably and carry out activities independently,” said Anne.

According to Anne, the high number of beneficiaries shows that mobility needs remain present in later life. Train services help elderly passengers stay connected with family, social environments, healthcare services, and various meaningful daily activities.

“Behind every journey, there is a different story. Some parents wish to visit their children, grandparents want to meet their grandchildren, and others remain active in various pursuits. KAI aims to accompany their journeys with friendly and attentive service,” she added.

KAI provides a 20% fare reduction for passengers aged 60 years and above on long-distance train services in economy, business, and executive classes. This facility does not apply to Priority, Imperial, Panoramic, Luxury, and Compartment Suite services.

To obtain the reduced fare, passengers must register no later than two days (H-2) before departure through Customer Service at stations that provide registration services. Registration must be done in person by presenting a valid original identification.

Registration may also be completed by a representative, provided they bring the original identification and a photograph of the elderly passenger being registered. Once registered, ticket booking can be made via station counters or through the Access by KAI application.

Registration is only required once as long as the reduction remains valid. If it expires, passengers must register again.

Through the Access by KAI application, passengers can select the “Reduction” passenger type, enter the reduction number, click “Check Reduction,” ensure the passenger name matches, and then proceed with the booking process.

KAI also encourages all passengers to help create a comfortable travel experience for elderly customers. Simple gestures include giving them priority in queues, allowing extra time when boarding and alighting, offering assistance when needed, and communicating politely and patiently.

“Elderly individuals have gone through a long journey in life and contributed greatly to their families and society. It is only right that we create a travel environment where they feel valued, safe, and remain close to the people they love,” Anne concluded.
