The school holiday season has become an essential period for the public to plan family trips, vacations, educational activities, homecoming visits, and regional economic activities. During this period, seat availability, scheduling options, station readiness, and ease of booking access are crucial components in supporting the seamless flow of public travel.

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) supports the Government’s 30 percent transportation discount program through the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation by preparing 1,174,624 Commercial Economy Class train seats for the departure period of June 20 to July 5, 2026. As of Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM WIB, a total of 331,463 tickets have been booked, representing 28.22 percent of the total capacity provided.

With this milestone, KAI is still offering 843,161 available seats or 71.78 percent of the total program capacity. This availability provides space for the public to arrange their trips early, select departure times that meet their needs, and adjust plans with their families and relatives.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communications Anne Purba stated that the discount program from the Government through the DJKA of the Ministry of Transportation supports public mobility needs during the school holidays.

“Trains are a preferred choice for the public because journeys can be planned well in advance, schedules are clearly available, and booking access is easily accessible. Through this discount program, the public has more options for traveling during the school holiday season,”

The surge in bookings is most noticeable at the beginning of the holiday period. Departures on June 20, 2026, recorded 42,017 passengers, and June 21, 2026, recorded 40,294 passengers. This pattern shows that the community is choosing the start of the school holiday period to travel with family, visit relatives, and head toward tourist and educational cities.

The school holiday momentum is closely linked to high interregional public movement. As an illustration of last year's school holiday period, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded domestic tourist trips reaching 105.12 million trips in June 2025 and 100.20 million trips in July 2025. This data highlights that the holiday season is one of the periods with the highest public mobility across various regions.

In facing this period, KAI has prepared various operational aspects of travel, ranging from fleet readiness, station personnel, travel information, passenger flow management, to coordination at departure and arrival points. These preparations are undertaken so that passengers can go through their travel process in an orderly manner from the moment they arrive at the station until they reach their destination.

“We urge passengers to plan their trips early, double-check their departure schedules, and arrive at the station ahead of time. With proper planning, school holiday trips can take place in a more orderly, safe, and comfortable manner,”

Based on temporary data from KAI, Pasar Senen Station stands as the departure and destination point with the highest volume. The five largest departure stations by volume are Pasar Senen with 50,909 passengers, Yogyakarta with 25,116 passengers, Lempuyangan with 17,562 passengers, Bekasi with 14,785 passengers, and Semarang Tawang with 14,724 passengers.

Meanwhile, the five highest volume destination stations are Pasar Senen with 49,186 passengers, Yogyakarta with 28,788 passengers, Lempuyangan with 16,452 passengers, Bekasi with 15,660 passengers, and Bandung with 13,378 passengers. This pattern indicates strong public movement from and toward tourist destinations, educational hubs, family centers, and areas with high local economic activities.

The current highest volume routes are Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen with 8,779 passengers, Pasar Senen–Lempuyangan with 8,501 passengers, Pasar Senen–Yogyakarta with 6,490 passengers, Yogyakarta–Pasar Senen with 4,658 passengers, and Pasar Senen–Malang with 4,099 passengers.

In terms of train names, the five trains with the highest bookings under the current discount program are the Majapahit Train with 15,733 passengers, Sawunggalih Train with 14,998 passengers, Joglosemarkerto Train with 13,921 passengers, Progo Train with 13,527 passengers, and Pangrango Train with 12,941 passengers.

Anne added that KAI continuously monitors the progress of bookings throughout the school holiday period. This monitoring is conducted to ensure that seat availability information, passenger travel patterns, and operational readiness at stations and onboard can be optimally managed.

The 30 percent transportation discount program applies to Commercial Economy Class trains for the departure period of June 20 to July 5, 2026. Travel schedules, seat availability, lists of participating trains, and ticket purchases can be checked through the Access by KAI application.

“KAI hopes that this program from the Government through the DJKA of the Ministry of Transportation can support the smooth mobility of the public during the school holidays. We invite customers to make the most of this program while paying close attention to schedules, travel regulations, and guidance from station officers,”
