2,953 Passengers with Disabilities Benefited from KAI's Discounted Fare Program in the First Half of 2026

PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) served 2,953 passengers with disabilities who utilized its discounted fare program during January–June 2026. This represents a 200.41% increase compared to the same period in 2025, when 983 passengers benefited from the program.

Within the first six months of 2026, the number of beneficiaries had already surpassed the total recorded throughout 2025, which stood at 2,648 passengers. As of the end of June 2026, this means 305 more passengers, or 11.52% above the total beneficiaries recorded during the entire previous year.

Behind these figures are thousands of journeys, each carrying a different purpose. Some passengers travel for medical treatment, work, education, important opportunities, family visits, or simply to return home where loved ones are waiting.

For passengers with disabilities, every journey often requires more careful planning. They need to consider accessibility to the station, the availability of supporting facilities, ease of mobility throughout the journey, and assistance whenever needed. Having access to a more affordable and comfortable travel option can provide the confidence to leave home, pursue daily activities, and stay connected with family and loved ones.

Vice President Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba said the growing number of beneficiaries indicates that more passengers with disabilities are becoming aware of and making use of their entitlement to discounted rail fares.

"A total of 2,953 passengers with disabilities benefited from our discounted fare program during the first half of 2026. Behind every number is someone traveling for a meaningful reason. It could be a parent waiting for their child to return home, a family reuniting after time apart, or someone pursuing an opportunity for a better future," Anne said.

KAI offers a 20% fare reduction for passengers with disabilities across all service classes. The program has been available for travel departures since 17 September 2023, coinciding with Indonesia's National Transportation Day.

The discounted fare is available to individuals with long-term physical, intellectual, mental, and/or sensory disabilities. These conditions may create barriers to interacting with their surroundings and participating fully and effectively in society on an equal basis with others.

Anne explained that rail transportation plays an important role in connecting people with their families, workplaces, educational institutions, healthcare services, and various life opportunities. Delivering that role means recognizing that every customer has different travel needs and circumstances.

"An inclusive journey begins when people feel welcomed, respected, and supported rather than left to overcome challenges on their own. We hope this discounted fare program enables more passengers with disabilities to travel with confidence, knowing they have the same right to visit loved ones, pursue education, work, access healthcare, and stay connected with their families," Anne added.

According to KAI's station facility data, accessible toilets are available at 56 major passenger stations. Other accessibility features include tactile paving, wheelchairs and stretchers, staff assistance, healthcare services, and travel information delivered through station personnel and Passenger Information Display systems where available.

These facilities and staff assistance play an important role in supporting passengers with disabilities throughout their journey. Something as simple as having a wheelchair readily available, receiving guidance from station staff, or accessing clear travel information can significantly reduce concerns for both passengers and their families.

For families, peace of mind comes from knowing their loved ones can travel safely. For passengers with disabilities, simple acts of kindness also reinforce the message that they are welcomed and valued as equal members of public spaces.

"Every train carries countless human stories. We want every passenger with a disability to know that their journey matters just as much as anyone else's. Each of them travels with goals, challenges, and hopes that deserve respect," Anne continued.

How to Obtain the Disability Fare Discount

Passengers with disabilities can register for the discounted fare at the Customer Service counter at any station during operating hours under the following requirements:

  1. Registration must be completed no later than two days before the scheduled departure.
  2. Passengers must present an original medical certificate issued by a hospital or community health center stating that they are a person with a disability.
  3. The medical certificate is valid for a lifetime.
  4. Passengers must present their original national identity card (KTP) during registration.
  5. Registration only needs to be completed once and remains valid for future bookings.
  6. Registration may be completed by a representative by presenting the original medical certificate, original KTP, and a passport-sized photograph of the passenger.
  7. The 20% fare reduction applies to all service classes.
  8. During boarding and onboard ticket inspection, passengers must present either their original KTP or the original disability certificate.
  9. The discounted fare does not apply to Special Fare tickets or Premium services such as Priority, Imperial, Panoramic, Luxury Sleeper, and other tourist train services.

Once registration is completed, passengers can purchase tickets through KAI's official sales channels.

"We encourage families, caregivers, and the public to help share this information with persons with disabilities in their communities. While information about discounted fares may seem simple, for someone else it could be the first step toward reuniting with family, receiving medical treatment, earning a living, or pursuing dreams that once felt out of reach," Anne concluded.

Passengers seeking further information about disability fare registration or train travel services can contact KAI through its Official WhatsApp at 0811-2223-3121, Call Center 121, or via email at [email protected]. KAI also reminds customers to use only the company's official communication channels and remain vigilant against fraud or scams carried out in KAI's name.
