162,000 Passenger Movements per Day, Manggarai Set to Strengthen Jakarta's Transport Connectivity
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) considers Manggarai Station to have a strategic role in the development of Jakarta's public transportation system. Currently, activities at Manggarai Station reach approximately 162,000 passenger movements per day, with around 700–750 train trips operating daily. This high level of mobility provides an important foundation for strengthening connectivity and developing the Manggarai area in the future.
Vice President Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba said that the high level of passenger movement makes Manggarai more than just a transfer point. The area has the potential to develop into a hub where various public transportation services become increasingly connected.
“Manggarai is strategically positioned within the daily journeys of people in Jakarta and the surrounding metropolitan area. Going forward, the focus is on making transfers between services easier, journeys more efficient, and access to areas around the station better,” said Anne.
KAI data shows that the number of KRL passengers entering through the gates at Manggarai Station reached 5,142,739 in 2023, increased to 5,575,711 in 2024, and stood at 5,456,309 in 2025. Throughout January–June 2026, the number had reached 2,716,932 passengers. These figures demonstrate the significant level of travel activity centered around Manggarai from year to year.
Manggarai's role has also expanded with the presence of the Airport Commuter Line. Overall, the service served 1,970,531 passengers in 2023, increased to 2,242,536 passengers in 2024, and reached 2,346,934 passengers in 2025. Specifically at Manggarai Station, 230,314 Airport Commuter Line passengers were recorded throughout January–June 2026.
Going forward, connectivity in the area has the potential to be further strengthened through the development of the Jakarta LRT Phase 1B Velodrome–Manggarai. Based on information from the Jakarta Provincial Government, the route is approximately 6.4 kilometers long and includes five stations, including Manggarai Station. In July 2026, the Jakarta Provincial Government also reviewed the operational readiness of the route as part of preparations for the operation of Phase 1B.
With this development, Manggarai is expected to become an integrated area connecting KRL Commuter Line, Airport Commuter Line, TransJakarta, Manggarai Terminal, and Jakarta LRT. KAI's area development concept also places intermodal connectivity, pedestrian pathways, public spaces, and urban functions as interconnected elements.
According to Anne, strengthening connectivity is an initial step before the development of Manggarai progresses further toward the concept of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and urban area regeneration.
“The easier it is for people to move from one mode of transportation to another, the greater the benefits of public transportation for the city. Manggarai has the opportunity to develop into a more connected and accessible area that is close to people's daily activities,” concluded Anne.
