Keeping on Track Safely, KAI Ensures Smooth Train Journeys Amid Anak Krakatau Activity
The recent activity of Mount Anak Krakatau has drawn public attention. However, KAI customers can rest assured that train services continue to operate safely and under control.
KAI is closely monitoring the latest developments while coordinating with relevant authorities, including the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and the Geological Agency of Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources through the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG).
According to BMKG, an eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau was recorded on September 4, 2026, at 10:03 PM Western Indonesian Time. The activity was detected by a seismograph station with a maximum amplitude of 19 mm and lasted approximately 29 seconds. As of September 5, 2026, at 10:30 AM, BMKG reported that there had been no significant increase in sea level as a result of the activity.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba explained that safety remains the company's top priority in every journey. KAI therefore continues to monitor any conditions that could potentially affect train operations while actively coordinating with relevant authorities.
From railway infrastructure and train readiness to track conditions and on-site coordination, every aspect of the journey continues to receive close attention to ensure customers can travel safely and comfortably. So far, all train services remain operational according to schedule.
Airport Rail services are also continuing to operate based on the latest conditions. KAI remains in close coordination with relevant stakeholders to support passengers travelling to and from airports, including in the event of adjustments to flight operations.
Anne added that KAI's preparedness is supported by a range of safety procedures, including operational monitoring, risk mitigation, coordination across work units, and the readiness of personnel to respond to various travel conditions.
Through these ongoing efforts, KAI continues to keep journeys running smoothly while providing passengers with greater peace of mind. Customers are encouraged to remain calm and stay updated through official information channels from KAI, BMKG, and PVMBG.
For those planning to travel by train, the journey can continue with confidence. KAI will keep monitoring the situation and prioritizing safety to ensure every trip remains safe and comfortable from departure to destination.
