Traveling by train is becoming more accessible and affordable for customers with disabilities. During January–June 2026, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded 2,953 customers with disabilities benefiting from its 20% reduced fare program.

The figure represents an impressive 200.41% increase compared to the same period in 2025, when 983 customers used the program. Even more encouraging, the first-half achievement has already surpassed the total number of beneficiaries recorded throughout 2025, which stood at 2,648 customers—an increase of 305 customers (11.52%).

Behind every trip is a meaningful story. Some passengers travel for work, education, medical treatment, family reunions, important opportunities, or simply to return home to the people who matter most.

For many customers with disabilities, traveling often requires additional planning—from ensuring accessible transportation to the station and available facilities, to receiving assistance whenever needed. Through its reduced fare program, KAI aims to make every journey easier, more comfortable, and more affordable.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the increasing number of beneficiaries reflects growing public awareness of the reduced fare program and encourages more people with disabilities to exercise their right to accessible transportation.

A total of 2,953 customers with disabilities benefited from KAI's reduced fare program during the first half of 2026. Behind every number is someone traveling with hope and a meaningful purpose—whether reuniting with family, pursuing education, seeking medical care, or embracing new opportunities.

As part of its commitment to inclusive transportation, KAI provides a 20% fare discount for customers with disabilities across all train service classes. The program has been available since September 17, 2023, coinciding with Indonesia's National Transportation Day.

The reduced fare applies to individuals with long-term physical, intellectual, mental, and/or sensory disabilities in accordance with applicable regulations.

According to Anne, trains are more than just a mode of transportation—they connect people with their families, workplaces, schools, healthcare services, and countless life opportunities. Inclusive services therefore play a vital role in ensuring every customer enjoys a comfortable and dignified travel experience.

Inclusive travel begins when everyone feels welcomed, respected, and supported throughout their journey. We hope this reduced fare program encourages more customers with disabilities to travel confidently because everyone deserves equal opportunities to learn, work, reconnect with loved ones, and pursue their dreams.

Beyond offering affordable fares, KAI continues to strengthen accessibility across its stations. Currently, 56 major passenger stations are equipped with accessible restrooms, complemented by tactile paving, wheelchairs and stretchers, staff assistance, healthcare services, and passenger information displays where available.

These facilities, together with dedicated assistance from station staff, help create a smoother and more reassuring travel experience for both customers with disabilities and their families.

Every train carries countless human stories. We want every customer with disabilities to know that their journey matters just as much as anyone else's. They travel with hopes, dreams, and aspirations that deserve to be respected.

How to Access KAI's Reduced Fare Program

Customers with disabilities can register once at the Customer Service desk at any station no later than two days before departure by presenting an original medical certificate issued by a hospital or public health center, along with a valid national ID card. Once registered, customers can enjoy the reduced fare for future bookings through KAI's official ticketing channels.

The 20% discount applies to all regular train service classes but excludes special promotional fares as well as Priority, Imperial, Panoramic, Luxury Sleeper, and other tourist train services.

KAI also encourages families, caregivers, and communities to share information about the program so more people with disabilities can benefit from affordable and accessible rail transportation.

For more information, customers can contact KAI's Official WhatsApp at +62 811-2223-3121, Call Center 121, or email [email protected]. Customers are reminded to use only KAI's official communication channels and remain vigilant against scams impersonating the company.
