More International Tourists Choose Trains to Discover Indonesia

In July 2026, KAI served 96,940 international tourists traveling on long-distance trains. This marked the highest monthly volume since 2022, highlighting the growing interest among international visitors in experiencing intercity travel by rail.
The July figure was 8.28% higher than the 89,526 international tourists recorded in July 2025. It was also 67.21% above the monthly average of approximately 57,973 international tourists recorded from January to July 2026.
KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba said the growth reflects the increasingly important role of railways in supporting intercity tourism travel for international visitors.
Nearly 97,000 international tourists used long-distance trains in July 2026. This is the highest monthly figure since 2022 and shows that rail travel is increasingly becoming part of their travel experience in Indonesia.
The overall trend is also moving in a positive direction. From January to July 2026, KAI served 405,814 international tourists, an increase of 3.86% compared with the 390,745 recorded during the same period in 2025.
This growth continues the upward trend in international tourists using long-distance trains over the past several years. In 2022, the number stood at 300,708, rising to 580,995 in 2023, 669,226 in 2024, and 694,123 in 2025. By July 2026, the figure had reached 405,814 international tourists.
From Yogyakarta to Bandung, More Cities on the Travel Map
International tourists using trains are also traveling through a wide range of cities known for their tourism appeal. In July 2026, Yogyakarta Station recorded the highest number of international tourist departures, with 21,933 passengers.
It was followed by Gambir Station with 18,480 international tourists and Bandung Station with 9,330.

Together, these 10 stations served 71,704 international tourists, representing approximately 73.97% of all international tourists traveling on long-distance trains in July 2026.
The distribution highlights the role of railways in connecting some of Indonesia’s popular destinations, from Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Malang, Semarang, Probolinggo, and Solo to a wide range of tourism experiences and activities across each region.
