
KAI Expands Access to Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan, Serving 182,000 Customers
Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan has served 182,208 customers since its introduction in 2026 through September 9, 2026. The services comprise K3 Kerakyatan and long-distance Kereta Petani dan Pedagang services.
Of this total, 181,900 customers used K3 Kerakyatan services, while 308 customers used Kereta Petani dan Pedagang services on the Garut–Pasarsenen and Pasarsenen–Garut routes.
Vice President of Corporate Communication KAI Anne Purba said Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan services provide travel options tailored to the mobility needs of the community. KAI also continues to monitor customer travel data as a reference for evaluating travel patterns and developing its services.
K3 Kerakyatan services were first introduced through additional trains on the Lempuyangan–Pasarsenen and Pasarsenen–Lempuyangan routes during the 2026 Eid Transportation Period, from March 11 to April 5, 2026. During this period, the service recorded 24,398 customers, comprising 12,262 customers traveling from Lempuyangan to Pasarsenen and 12,136 customers traveling from Pasarsenen to Lempuyangan.
Following the Eid Transportation Period, K3 Kerakyatan services continued through KA Cikuray on the Garut–Pasarsenen and Pasarsenen–Garut routes starting June 11, 2026. Through September 9, 2026, KA Cikuray had served 157,502 customers, including 81,368 customers traveling from Garut to Pasarsenen and 76,134 customers traveling from Pasarsenen to Garut.
In addition to K3 Kerakyatan, KAI also introduced long-distance Kereta Petani dan Pedagang services on the same routes starting June 11, 2026. Through September 9, 2026, the service had served 308 customers, comprising 153 customers traveling from Garut to Pasarsenen and 155 customers traveling from Pasarsenen to Garut.
Anne explained that customer numbers and travel patterns are among the factors KAI considers when evaluating and developing its services. The monitoring process takes into account safety, comfort, and the mobility needs of the community.
With 182,208 customers served through September 9, 2026, KAI will continue to manage Kereta Ekonomi Kerakyatan services based on changing mobility patterns, making railway travel increasingly accessible and convenient for customers.
