Want to go on vacation with friends or a big family in a fun and comfortable way? KAI has great news for you! Now the public has a new alternative for tourism transportation, namely the Extraordinary Train (Kereta Luar Biasa / KLB). Unlike regular commercial trips, you can charter several train carriages for a special travel route using KLB. Curious? Let’s take a look at more information about the requirements and how to book it!

What is KLB?

So, what exactly is KLB? Not “Extraordinary Event” (Kejadian Luar Biasa), but Extraordinary Train (Kereta Luar Biasa). KLB is a train service whose trips are not listed in the GAPeka (Railway Travel Chart) and are not part of the fixed schedule, but are arranged according to demand.

KAI Vice President of Public Relations Joni Martinus said that KAI provides KLB services that can be chartered. Customers can choose the type of train, schedule, as well as departure and arrival stations according to their needs.

“This KLB service can be used by the public to enjoy a more exclusive train travel experience,” said Joni.

Joni explained that there is no minimum number of passengers required to apply for a KLB trip. The permitted passenger capacity follows the capacity of the rented train. He added that each KLB trip must use at least six train cars, with the type of train adjusted to the applicant’s request.

“If the number of train cars used is less than six, a special calculation will be applied,” he explained.

Applying for a KLB Trip

To plan a trip using KLB, you can follow these steps:

  1. The prospective customer submits a group transportation request letter stating the number of passengers, route, and travel schedule.
  2. KAI checks train availability and prepares a suitable fare offer.
  3. After an agreement is reached, a memorandum of agreement is made and the customer is required to pay a down payment.
  4. KLB applications must be submitted at least 7 days before departure to ensure optimal service preparation.

For those who want to charter a KLB, you can contact the passenger transport marketing unit in each Operational Area (Daop) or Regional Division (Divre) as follows:
