Travel Becomes More Comfortable with New Generation Economy Train

Affordable fares with efficient travel times to destinations are one of the reasons why many people choose trains as their favorite mode of transportation. This is further supported by continuous improvements in class services and increasingly diverse passenger facilities.

Long-distance trains in Indonesia generally have three classes for each service type: executive, business, and economy. However, economy class remains a popular choice for many people because of its affordable ticket prices and adequate facilities. Most economy trains are equipped with air conditioning, making journeys more comfortable, especially in hot weather.

As we know, the previous economy trains had 106 seats with a 3-2 seating formation, upright seatbacks, and face-to-face arrangements, resulting in limited space. This has gradually been replaced by economy trains with 80 seats in a 2-2 formation without face-to-face seating.

Recently, KAI has further developed economy class by launching the "New Generation Economy Train." This train has undergone various positive changes that make train travel more comfortable and enjoyable. What are the advantages of this new generation economy train? Let’s find out together!

Bringing Greater Comfort

One of the main aspects of the New Generation Economy Train is improved comfort. KAI introduced innovation by presenting this train with only 72 seats, resulting in wider legroom. In addition, the seats use captain seat types, making them more comfortable with reclining features and the ability to rotate (revolving) to face the direction of travel or each other.

Interior Changes

Not only the seating, but the interior has also been improved. KAI has installed a Public Information Display System (PIDS) that shows information such as time and temperature, providing convenience for passengers. In addition, the interior design is more similar to executive class trains with a brighter atmosphere, creating a more pleasant travel environment.

Other Facilities

The improvements do not stop there. The New Generation Economy Train also features a more luxurious seated toilet. In addition, there is a prayer room in the dining/restoration car, allowing passengers to worship comfortably during the journey.

These are some of the advantages of the New Generation Economy Train. This train is the result of modifications carried out by KAI at Balai Yasa Manggarai. Since April 2023, 12 economy train units have been successfully modified there.

For those who want to try it, the New Generation train is currently operating on the Jayabaya train service route Pasar Senen – Malang round trip. The Jayabaya train departs from Pasar Senen at 17.25 and arrives in Malang at 06.20. For the return route Malang – Pasar Senen, it departs from Malang at 12.30 and arrives at Pasar Senen at 01.38.
