PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) is operating its 2023 Eid Transportation period for 19 days, from 14 April to 2 May 2023. During this period, KAI and its subsidiaries under the KAI Group are providing a total train seat capacity of 6,936,532 seats. This includes 987,380 Executive Class seats (14%), 137,600 Business Class seats (2%), and 5,811,522 Economy Class seats (84%).

Of the total 6,936,532 seats, 4,076,488 are provided by KAI, while 2,860,044 seats are provided by its subsidiaries, KAI Commuter and KAI Bandara. The seats operated by KAI consist of 3,065,404 Long-Distance Train seats (2,520,056 regular services and 545,348 additional services) and 1,011,084 Local Train seats.

Meanwhile, the 2,860,044 seats operated by KAI's subsidiaries include 2,701,644 seats managed by KAI Commuter and 158,400 seats managed by KAI Bandara.

"The total capacity of 6.9 million seats provided during the 2023 Eid Transportation period represents a 36% increase compared to the 5,097,114 seats provided during the 2022 Eid Transportation period," said KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo.

During the 2023 Eid Transportation period, KAI is operating a total of 7,458 Long-Distance and Local Train services, averaging 339 train trips per day. This represents a 19% increase compared to the 2022 Eid Transportation period, which operated 6,175 train services or an average of 281 trips per day.

To further improve customer service, KAI has introduced various additional facilities during the 2023 Eid Transportation period. These include the distribution of complimentary iftar snack packages (takjil) from 12 to 21 April 2023 at 21 major stations. A total of 34,400 snack packages containing bread, bottled water, and dates are being distributed.

To provide a more convenient and enjoyable travel experience, KAI has also introduced the Face Recognition Boarding Gate, which allows passengers to board through facial recognition technology integrated with identity verification. The system validates passenger identity, ticket information, and vaccination status, improving both service speed and inspection accuracy. The facility is currently available at Bandung, Yogyakarta, Surabaya Gubeng, Malang, and Solo Balapan stations.

Another new facility introduced by KAI is the Drinking Water Station, initially available at Gambir, Pasar Senen, and Surabaya Gubeng stations. This initiative supports KAI's environmental campaign by encouraging passengers to bring reusable tumblers and reduce plastic waste. KAI has also introduced Reading Corners featuring 1,905 children's books at Pasar Senen, Cirebon, Semarang Tawang, Solo Balapan, and Surabaya Gubeng stations.

In addition, KAI has redesigned its Luxury Train customer experience through the introduction of new luxury train services and an enhanced lounge experience. The improvements include upgraded customer service touchpoints before, during, and after the journey. KAI has also upgraded its Executive Lounges to provide a more comfortable and premium experience at eight stations: Gambir, Cirebon, Purwokerto, Yogyakarta, Solo Balapan, Semarang Tawang, Surabaya Pasarturi, and Malang.

KAI has also deployed additional frontline personnel, including 143 Mobile Customer Service (CSM) officers stationed across 32 stations, along with 588 additional cleaning staff assigned to stations and onboard trains.

"To make the Eid homecoming journey even more memorable, KAI is also offering door prizes and themed decorations at stations and onboard trains throughout the 2023 Eid Transportation period. We hope passengers enjoy a safe, comfortable, and healthy journey home by train," Didiek concluded.
