Among the many modes of transportation available, trains remain a popular choice for traveling. Trains provide their own unique experience and excitement. Besides offering more affordable ticket prices, train facilities today are much more comfortable compared to the past. Another benefit of traveling by train is that it is relatively fast and free from traffic congestion. The scenery throughout the journey can also be enjoyed as a way to relax.

For those who enjoy traveling by train, it is important to pay attention to the belongings you bring. KAI has implemented regulations regarding the amount of luggage that passengers are allowed to bring onto trains. What are the rules regarding passenger luggage? Please see the following provisions:

1. Each passenger is allowed to bring luggage onto the train with a maximum weight of 20 kg per passenger and a maximum volume of 100 dm³, with maximum dimensions of 70 cm x 48 cm x 30 cm. Passengers may bring up to 4 pieces of luggage (items) without additional charges.

2. If you bring items exceeding the permitted weight and size limits, the items may still be brought onto the train by paying excess baggage fees. The excess baggage rates are as follows:

Executive Class trains: Rp10,000/kg
Business Class trains: Rp6,000/kg
Economy Class trains: Rp2,000/kg
3. If your luggage weighs more than 40 kg or exceeds 200 dm³ (70 cm x 48 cm x 60 cm), it is not allowed inside the train cabin. Passengers are advised to use delivery services, including one of KAI's subsidiaries, KAI Logistik.

4. Want to bring a bicycle when traveling by train? Of course, you can. However, there are regulations regarding the types of bicycles allowed on trains.

Only folding bicycles are permitted, with a maximum weight of 20 kg and a maximum wheel size of 22 inches. The folded bicycle must also fit within the maximum dimensions of 100 cm x 40 cm x 30 cm.

5. KAI is not responsible for damage or loss of passenger belongings. Every passenger is responsible for taking care of their own luggage.

However, if you lose an item or leave something behind on the train, you can ask for assistance from the KAI Railway Police (Polsuska) officers on duty.

6. Not all items can be carried as luggage when traveling by train.

Items that are prohibited as baggage include animals, narcotics, psychotropic substances, and other addictive substances, firearms and sharp weapons, surfboards, flammable or explosive items, and goods with unpleasant or strong odors because they may disturb the comfort of other passengers.

Additionally, items that officers consider unsuitable for transportation due to their condition or size, as well as items prohibited by laws and regulations, are also not permitted.

7. If passengers are found carrying items exceeding the weight or size limits without a baggage permit, fines will be applied as follows:

Executive Class trains: Rp50,000/5 kg
Business Class and commercial Economy Class trains: Rp30,000/5 kg
Non-commercial Economy Class trains: Rp15,000/5 kg

The baggage weight calculation will be rounded up to the nearest multiple of 5 kg.

"Bring only what you need and try to keep your belongings in one place, such as a suitcase or backpack. Place your belongings properly on the luggage rack above your seat or in another designated area so they do not disturb or endanger other passengers and do not cause damage to the train.

These luggage regulations are implemented to create safety and comfort for passengers throughout their train journey," concluded KAI Vice President of Public Relations Joni Martinus.
