Motis Program, An Effort to Reduce the Risk of Motorcycle Accidents
The Government, through the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) of the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, has resumed the Free Motorcycle Transportation Program (Motis) after it was suspended for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the 2022 Motis program, DJKA has appointed KAI Group through KAI Logistik to operate the service from 26 April to 9 May 2022.
Director General of Railways Zulfikri stated that the program is part of the Government's effort to accommodate the public's high enthusiasm for the annual Eid homecoming travel (mudik).
"Based on a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation's Research and Development Agency, it is estimated that 85 million people will travel for this year's Eid homecoming. We must anticipate this high level of public enthusiasm to ensure that people can travel safely, securely, and happily," said Zulfikri.
He further explained that the Motis program is intended to reduce the number of people travelling home using motorcycles.
This is because travelling long distances by motorcycle poses a high safety risk for travellers.
To encourage more people to switch from motorcycles and take advantage of the Motis program, the service is also open to travellers using buses or travel services, in addition to train passengers who already have train tickets, as has been the case in previous implementations.
In his remarks, Zulfikri also emphasized that health protocols must continue to be enforced throughout the implementation of the Motis program.
Therefore, prospective participants are encouraged to comply with the travel requirements stipulated in the Minister of Transportation Circular Letter No. 39 of 2022, as amended by Circular Letter No. 49 of 2022, so that they can prepare properly before travelling by meeting all applicable regulations and requirements.
KAI President Director Didiek Hartantyo stated that KAI Group fully supports the Motis program as part of its commitment to serving travellers who wish to bring their motorcycles to their hometowns.
"We will maintain the trust of participants who send their motorcycles by train by providing excellent service while prioritising safety.
KAI Group is ready to play its role in improving the safety of Eid travellers through the provision of Motis train services. By using rail transportation for both passengers and freight, road congestion can be reduced while improving the safety of travellers during the 2022 Eid homecoming period," said Didiek.
KAI Logistik President Director TLN. Ahmad Malik Syah explained that KAI Logistik is accepting Motis registrations starting today until 8 May 2022, subject to the available quota.
Participants may register online through bit.ly/motis2022 or register in person at the designated railway stations.
"This is the second time KAI Logistik has been entrusted to serve as the operator of the Free Motorcycle Transportation Program. We are delighted to be involved and become part of this year's Eid homecoming activities, which mark the first large-scale homecoming period during the pandemic. We have ensured the readiness of all operational support, including facilities, human resources, and systems for the 2022 Motis program, and are prepared to transport 9,280 motorcycles for both the outbound and return journeys in accordance with the quota provided by the Government," said Malik.
The Motis program serves various round-trip routes across two corridors. The Northern Corridor covers Jakarta Gudang Station, Cirebon Prujakan Station, Tegal Station, Pekalongan Station, and Semarang Tawang Station. Meanwhile, the Southern Corridor serves Jakarta Gudang Station, Cirebon Prujakan Station, Purwokerto Station, Kroya Station, Kutoarjo Station, Lempuyangan Station, Klaten Station, and Purwosari Station.
Under the Motis program, the Government provides a daily quota of 928 motorcycles transported by two trains, each consisting of eight baggage carriages (B Carriages). The service operates daily during the outbound Eid travel period from 26 to 30 April 2022 and continues during the return travel period from 5 to 9 May 2022.
During shipment, participants can also track their motorcycles independently through the KAI Access application or the KAI Logistik website by entering their shipment tracking number.
Throughout the program, KAI Logistik, as the operator appointed by the Government, is responsible for the entire transportation process, including receiving the motorcycles, packing, loading them onto the train, unloading them upon arrival, and handing them over to participants.
