Family Trips Get Even More Fun as 40 Stations Introduce Dedicated Kids' Play Areas
This year's National Children's Day is bringing even more reasons for families to enjoy traveling by train. Inspired by the theme "Equal Joy for Every Child," train journeys are becoming more family-friendly with dedicated kids' play areas now available at 40 stations across Indonesia.
Designed to make every trip more enjoyable from the moment passengers arrive at the station, these play areas give children a chance to play, explore, and spend quality time with their families while waiting for their trains. The result is a more engaging and memorable travel experience for passengers of all ages.
The children's play areas are available at 40 stations across 13 Operational Areas and Regional Divisions throughout Java and Sumatra. They can be found at major stations including Gambir, Pasarsenen, Bandung, Garut, Cirebon, Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng, Purwokerto, Yogyakarta, Madiun, Surabaya Gubeng, Malang, Padang, Kertapati, and Tanjungkarang.
The initiative also supports the National Children's Day campaign encouraging children to spend less time on digital devices and enjoy more real-world activities. By providing dedicated spaces to play, stations become more than transit points—they become places where children can stay active, socialize, and discover the excitement of rail travel.
The family-friendly experience extends beyond children's play areas. Nursing rooms are now available at 135 stations, offering greater comfort and privacy for mothers traveling with infants. In addition, accessible restrooms have been provided at 56 major stations to ensure a more inclusive travel experience for passengers of all ages and abilities.
These improvements come as train travel continues to gain popularity. During the first half of 2026, Long-Distance and Local Train services welcomed 29.86 million passengers, representing an 8.72% increase compared to the same period last year.
The growing number of passengers encourages KAI to continuously enhance the overall customer experience by delivering stations and services that are more comfortable, inclusive, and enjoyable. Beyond simply transporting passengers, every train journey is designed to become a meaningful experience for families from departure to arrival.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to supervise children while using the play areas, help keep the facilities clean, and follow station guidelines to ensure everyone can enjoy a safe and pleasant environment.
Through the continuous development of family-friendly facilities, every train journey is expected to become more than just a trip. It is an opportunity for children to play, learn, explore new places, and create memorable moments with their families along the way.
