KAI Grows Together, Moving Toward a Sustainable Transportation Future
Entering its 81st year, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) (KAI) continues to move forward with a new spirit. It is not only about journeys from one station to another, but also about how KAI continues to grow, innovate, and provide transportation that is increasingly aligned with the needs of the community.
For 81 years, trains have been part of various travel stories of the Indonesian people. From going to work, attending college, meeting family, business trips, to enjoying vacations. Today, these journeys continue to evolve along with service transformation, technological innovation, and KAI’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Vice President Corporate Communication of KAI Anne Purba said that the 81st anniversary is a momentum for KAI to look back on the company’s journey while preparing new steps toward the future.
“Trains have been part of the journey of Indonesian people for decades. Entering its 81st year, KAI continues to grow together with the community through service innovations and operational management that considers sustainability,” said Anne.
This growth is reflected in the increasing number of customers. Throughout January–August 2026, KAI Group served 351,602,397 customers, an increase of 7.09 percent compared to the same period last year.
The figure is not merely a number of passengers. Behind it are millions of travel stories every day, from people carrying out activities within the city, traveling between cities, conducting business, to exploring various tourist destinations by train.
However, the journey toward the future is not only about making mobility easier. KAI also continues to pay attention to how transportation can grow in a more environmentally friendly manner.
One of the efforts is through the utilization of clean energy. KAI currently operates 113 Solar Power Plant (PLTS) units across 92 locations with a total capacity of 4,430.65 kWp.
The utilization of solar energy contributes to reducing carbon emissions by more than 5,000 tons of CO₂ per year. In other words, the journey toward greener transportation continues, little by little but with concrete steps.
Not stopping at solar energy, since July 1, 2026, KAI has also begun implementing the use of B50 Biodiesel. The use of this fuel has contributed to reducing emissions by approximately 9,000 tons of CO₂e in 55 days.
“Transportation growth must go hand in hand with responsibility toward the environment. KAI continues to develop innovations so that people’s journeys become more comfortable while supporting a greener future for transportation,” said Anne.
This spirit is also reflected in the philosophy behind KAI’s 81st Anniversary logo. The shape of the number 81 represents the company’s long journey as it continues to move forward, from experience toward transformation and toward a greater future.
Eighty-one years is not the finish line. Instead, the next journey is an opportunity for KAI to continue moving, adapting, and delivering travel experiences that are increasingly relevant to the needs of the community.
With the spirit of “Semakin Melayani”, KAI continues to move forward together with the community. Because every journey is not only about reaching the destination, but also about making the journey more comfortable, modern, and sustainable.
